Mark Blanchard grew up in a workshop. His father’s home machine shop was the setting in which Mark learned about craftsmanship and developed a love for working with his hands. In the early eighties, while studying physics at the University of California in Santa Cruz, Mark’s love of acoustic music led him into the repair and restoration of string instruments.
In 1994 Mark began building his own line of acoustic guitars, and he became a full time luthier in 1998. Although largely self taught, Mark has studied flattop guitar acoustics with Al Carruth and archtop guitar construction with Linda Manzer and Tom Ribbecke.
